Shelli so kindly pointed out that when I forget to post the Friday Five I could do a Saturday Six. Of course, that requires a whole extra point to think of, but I guess I’ll just consider that incentive to remember next time. Right?
1. 70 pages written out of a 75 page proposal. Good news: great progress, very happy with the story and I’m excited to send it off to my agent, so that we can get it ready to send it off to the editors who have asked. Bad news: I am supposed to get to the next major plot beat, which, I’ve now realized, is going to take me well past page 75. So, instead of a 5 more pages to go I have some undetermined # in addition to some revisions I have to do go through for the first half of the proposal. Dan’s asked me to do even more layering–there are apparently going to be a whole lot of layers! All good stuff though. I don’t expect to be done before the end of the week.
2. Nate got a job!!!!! Hooray!
3. I got a couple ARCs this week, which made me happy. From Del Rey, I got THE WARDED MAN by Peter V. Brett, which is an adventure fantasy (I think you’d call it?) coming out in March. And from Bantam, I got ILLEGAL by Edgar-nominee Paul Levine. I don’t think it’s a legal thriller per se, but the protag is a “disgraced lawyer” and it sounds like it has a lot of really dark subplots, so right up my alley. I’m excited to read both because, quite frankly, I never get around to buying adult lit anymore.
4. Nothing completely, horrendously awful seemed to happen in the publishing industry today. (Right? Or am I missing something?) Quick, everyone hold their breath.
5. I really miss Absolute Write and the Purgatorians. Productivity has gone up, which is why I haven’t jumped right back in, but I do need to figure out a way to streamline my time so that I can still keep up with everyone!
6. Man, this extra one is tricky. I downloaded more iTunes? No…that’s not a good one. I’m ahead on my law school work this weekend? No…that’s bad too. Well, whatever. #6 is #6 ok. Don’t ask questions.
Just passing by.Btw, your website have great content!

Chandler,
You’re right. “Illegal” isn’t a legal thriller, despite Jimmy (Royal) Payne’s status as a somewhat shady lawyer. It’s a story of a missing woman, a gutsy kid, the down-and-out lawyer called upon to re-unite them, and a powerful land baron who holds the fate to all of them. I hope you like it! (And it does my heart good to see someone so young immersed in the literary life).
