10k Weekend Writing Challenge

This is a live blog of the 10k Challenge. Scroll down to the bottom to read about our weekend writing goal!

Monday Updates:

8:43 AM – Challenge Done! So, technically I wrapped things up this morning, but I like to think of it as being something I did before people started work at the end of the weekend? Would love to say that was the end of the line, but I’m write back to work! If anyone has any challenges for me to join in – email me!

Sunday Night Updates (a.k.a. once it occurred to me the most recent ones should go first):

1 AM – words are coming sooooo slow now; I’m going to take a nap, then I’ll be back

12 AM – Oh hey, it’s midnight and I have 3,000 words to go.

10:47 PM -3.5k to go; Jen finished! Obviously I haven’t; probably need some ice cream

Sunday Updates:

7:11 PM – Oops! Haven’t been updating, I’m at 3k for the day. I’ve still got a long road, but I’m feeling good especially b/c I came up with something I didn’t know was going to happen but that I love! Been in touch with Jen all day, she’s doing awesome – Go Jen!

8:05 PM – 4k in and thanking my extreme susceptibility to peer pressure; pretty sure I wouldn’t be doing this if Jen weren’t at it with me – going to run up a few hills and then I’ll be back

8:40 PM – back from my run, shower, water, probably some coffee (already made thankfully), and then settle into a state of denial about how late I’m going to be up, for those of you keeping track, I have 4k left to write tonight, can I do it?

Updates:

8:30 AM  - Up, document open, staring at it and trying to figure out what to do next, sleepy

9:00 AM – Have to go to boot camp; climbing a mountain starting Thursday, work out can’t be skipped

10:45 AM – Back from boot camp, making coffee

12:10 PM – Just talked to Jen, we both were convinced the other had made serious project, felt united in the fact that both of us have…well…not, notepad in hand making a scene list

4:00 PM – woke up; when did I fall asleep on the couch? oops! Back to writing.

7:10 PM – writing at warp speed because Emily and Kelley are bringing over Indian food in T – 50 minutes! Jen’s back at it too I hear and by that I mean she’s kicking my butt

My August 18th deadline is quickly approaching and I had my first moment of real panic last night. Fortunately for me, one of my critique partners, Jen Hayley, wanted to join the insanity and suggested we do a 10k Writing Challenge this weekend because why go out downtown when you have a perfectly good computer screen to stare at?

So, starting tonight (yeah, as in this very second) and ending Sunday evening, we’ll be churning out 10,000 new words–which for those of you who are mathematically challenged will be 20,000 brand new words between us! And hey, we’d love to add your 10k to the mix. So, if you want to join us or just cheer us on feel free to link to this post, comment, whatever. On Sunday night, I’ll be celebrating by posting an interview with the awesome Terry Spear AND giving away two copies of her new book! What do you have to do to enter? You can…Write a comment anytime between now and Sunday on this post or on her interview or link to this post on your blog. Jen and I love company!

I’ll also be revising like crazy, mainly earlier chapters and likely during the times I get stuck or burned out.

Jen and I will both be updating these posts during the weekend. Visit her challenge page here. See y’all on the other side.
