It’s come to my attention that a real writing update is long overdue and while I can’t spill everything just yet, I figure something is better than nothing. Because I’ve been writing, really, I swear. So here’s what I’ve got:
First, you might remember that a few months ago I got an offer to write a couple books as a write-for-hire project. I ended up turning those books down mainly because they didn’t feel like the right fit. They were adult novels in a genre that, quite frankly, I didn’t read. What’s more, I needed to focus on getting my book into the hands of Agent Dan so that he could start shopping it.
I then went through some revisions with Agent Dan and his magical assistant who, together, gave wonderful suggestions and astute line edits.
During that time my agent was approached about a different work for hire project for me. There was quite a bit of back and forth and the publisher still had ultimate say over whether I would be the right author for the series, but I’m happy to say that I got an offer to write two books for an existing series that, while geared a bit younger than what I write currently, happens to be right up my alley.
On tap for the holiday break is tackling an editorial letter. I’ve taken the liberty of copying my good friend Shana Silver‘s revision method this time around and have already completed my 7-page chapter breakdown from which to work. (More on this later)
Other than that, I’m plowing through my To Be Read pile. Right now, I’m reading an advanced copy I got of the Ex-Boyfriend’s Handbook. Not usually my bag, but it’s actually really cute!! I’ll look it up, however I want to say it’s by Matt Dunn? Here on the blog, Shana and I should be holding a contest for Matched by Ally Condie very soon. I’m thinking about going to Book Expo America this year so I might try to find someone to guest post on the pros/cons of attending. One of my crit partners, Jen, and I will be holding another challenge to meet our respective goals and I’ll be trying to maintain my sanity while preparing an ms to turn into Agent Dan by January 17.
Hope all is well for y’all. Happy Holidays, my friends.
I feel so cool! I have my own “revision method.” haha.
Good luck in meeting your goals! I know you can do it and you’re on your way to Big Things! I am so excited for you! And yay BEA and Matched giveaway!
Chan, great to have an update from you! I’m excited you keep getting offers and that you sent Mr. Dan another one of your own material…I’m wondering if it was the YA fantasy? Or am I confused?
And congrats on getting more work-hire projects. I’m really impressed.
